Photography Is: A manifesto for the 21st century
Photography Is presents more than 3,000 phrases that define one of the most democratic and ubiquitous of all art forms. Mirroring the ambiguous and untrustworthy nature of photographs themselves, each phrase in this book has been torn from the context in which it originally appeared. The result is contradictory and chaotic, frustrating and insightful. In short, it is photography without photographs.
Installations of this book have been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Les Rencontres d’Arles, the International Centre of Photography in New York, and Open Eye in Liverpool. The book is held in collections including the Bibliotheque Kandinski in Paris, the National Art Library at the V&A in London, and the Museum of Modern Art’s collection of Artists’ Books in New York.
