SOFT EYES
A hard look at the world seeks out confirmation for what one already knows. One sees only whatever verifies one’s thinking. Awareness and acceptance of anything new is limited. The soft look on the contrary embraces things one is yet to know. It lets things briefly hover as they are perceived, suspending judgment, creating a moment in which everything seems possible. However, in what ensues, this possibility does not adopt some random or haphazard shape; instead, it serves as a basis enabling things to be linked and connected differently, in a new way. Hierarchies vanish and encounters are then equally relevant. New insights can emerge.
